Pop-Up Sink Drain With Overflow vs No Overflow

Pop-Up Sink Drain With Overflow vs No Overflow

WHAT IS A POP UP DRAIN?

A pop-up drain assembly is a drain that gives you an option to seal your drain to hold water by simply pushing on it to close and to open. Pop-up drains are designed to come in two different options “with overflow” or ”without overflow” openings. They are simple to use and quick to install. Zeek push button sink drain stopper are built to a industry standard size and can seal sink opening from 1 5/8 - 1 7/8 inch.

WHAT IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN “WITH OVERFLOW” AND “WITHOUT OVERFLOW” DRAINS?

An overflow opening is a small hole drilled in the top of the threaded portion of the drain that allows overflow water from the sink to enter the drain pipe. If your sink features an overflow, it is very important to purchase a drain with an overflow opening so that your sink and drain function properly. If your sink does not feature an overflow hole it needs to be paired with a a drain without overflow.

Thank you for sharing in your post that if our sink features an overflow, it is essential that we purchase a drain with an overflow opening so that our sink and drain function properly. I am planning to replace our sink plumbing since it does not flush properly. I won’t want to have a dysfunctional sink in the kitchen. https://newpipeplumbingfl.com/sink-drainage

Hi Liz, most vessel sink don’t have a overflow in the sink. Therefor, you need a drain without overflow. However, if you find a sink with a built in overflow, then you will need a drain with overflow.

I’m confused. I want to purchase a vessel sink. But I’m not finding any with an overflow drain. Can an overflow drain be purchased for any sink? Thanks
